Prewn – Dirty Dog
Prewn’s “Dirty Dog” starts with a nasty riff that sounds like it crawled out of the underground, but Izzy Hagerup doesn’t let it stay there. Instead, the track builds and shifts directions entirely, keeping you guessing where it’ll go next. It’s the second preview from her upcoming album System, due October 3 via Exploding In Sound Records.
Hagerup describes the song as living in “the nightmarish dreamscape of the unconscious—a place of fear and fearlessness, freudian and a little evil.” Behind the melodic disorder lies a story about a self-serving man who abandoned his needy mother and comes crawling back too late. Heavy stuff, but Hagerup handles it with the same agitated energy that drives the music.
Hagerup heads to Europe in October for shows in Berlin and Rotterdam’s Left Of The Dial festival.
